UV Nail Lamps Are Safe, Industry Experts Say 1

The results obtained by three scientists in contradiction with the nail industry, has reached conclusions of a medical report that warns of an increased risk of cancer in the hands after exposure to a UV nail light.

Have you heard rumors that UV lamps are dangerous or that you can even cause cancer? Recently, three industry chemists came together to test claims made in a report by two US-based dermatologists that lamps are a source of "high doses of UV-A. » The report also inaccurate compared to UV tanning beds with UV nail lamps. These nail industry scientists, Doug Schoon (CND), Paul Bryson (OPI), and Jim McConnell (Light Elegance), were stunned by the claims. To verify the facts, they tested the leading nail UV lamps to determine the amount of radiation UV-A and UV-B they emit, and compared it to natural sunlight. They concluded in the report that the occurrence of skin cancers no melanoma on the hands after UV exposure of nail light. It overestimated the customer's skin exposure to the ultraviolet light emitted by the UV lamps and the effect of these lamps on the hand and nails. In fact, he noted, customers' hands are likely to be exposed to more UV rays while driving the car than they will receive from UV nail gel services.

The UV nail lamps selected for testing are representative of over 90% of the UV nail lamps used in salons. Two different UV nail lamps were presented to Lighting science, a fully independent scientific testing laboratory. High sensitivity UV detectors were placed in the client's hands, while they normally reside inside a UV nail lamp. These detectors measure the amount of UV-A and UV-B light emitted from each lamp. To ensure a proper comparison, Lighting Science also used equipment from the same test to measure UV-A and UV-B light found in natural sunlight.
