Let's see some places in Asturias that may interest us to make a getaway. This community offers us wonderful natural corners, charming villages in the mountains or on the coast, an incredible gastronomy and beautiful landscapes.

Lakes of Covadonga

The beautiful Lakes of Covadonga are one of the jewels of Asturias not to be missed. Lake Enol is the largest and the first to be accessed, a lake created by a glacier millions of years ago. The others are Lake Ercina and Lake Bricial, which are smaller. The third lake is temporary, as it needs rainwater or snow to form, so it cannot always be seen. Around the lakes there is a hiking trail that is easily accessible. In addition, when we finish in the lakes we can see the Sanctuary of Covadonga and the Santa Cueva, excavated in the rock and where the Patron Saint of Asturias is located.

This small seafaring town everyone likes. It is a charming town with colorful houses that can be seen rising above an ever higher area. Today the port area has as many restaurants in which to try typical dishes. You can also go up to some viewpoints to enjoy the best views of the town. If we want go back in time we just have to visit Taramundi. It is a country place, surrounded by green areas and with several hiking trails for the whole family. But we can also see a town that still preserves old customs and crafts to create high quality knives, since they also have the Museum of Knives. You should also see the Museo de los Molinos de Mazonovo, the largest mill museum in Spain.

La Ruta del Carés is one of the most popular that we can enjoy in the Picos de Europa. It is quite busy during some times of the year but it is a beautiful 12 kilometer and linear route. Bulnes is another place in the Picos de Europa that should not be missed. This small town is today a tourist place that has enjoyed a funicular for a few years that facilitates its access. But until recently the only way to get there was by a path of almost two hours uphill that can still be done.

Gijón is one of the main Asturian cities. Stroll along the beach of San Lorenzo, with its huge promenade, is one of the most interesting things. But we also have to go up to see the Elogio del Horizonte or walk through Cimadevilla, its historic neighborhood. In the city we should also go to a typical restaurant to try the famous Asturian cuisine.

Avilés is a beautiful Asturian city with an interesting old town where we can find many places to taste cider. We can see the Plaza de España with the town hall and also the beautiful church of San Nicolás de Bari. On the other hand, we can take a step into the future by seeing the Niemeyer Cultural Center.
