Yes, we know that there is still one day left to finish the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid (MBFWM). And no, we do not want to detract from the emerging designers who will show their proposals on the EGO catwalk. But today Sunday is a good day to catch up, don't you think? and learn about the new proposals and trends of Spanish designers.
As you know, the first day of the 67th edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid took as settings different parts of the city. In the old municipal slaughterhouse it made its debut in the big week of Spanish fashion Oteyza, betting on the Spanish cape as a traditional element and colorful textiles to bring modernity.
Pilar Dalbat He presented "La Brecha", a collection inspired by the work of his countryman, the Granada-born painter José Guerrero, at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Their proposals stood out due to the variety of fabrics: baked wool, crepes with great drape, silk georgettes ... and the geometric methacrylate appliqués that provided a contemporary vision.
Jesus Lorenzo for Greenland It was also presented during the first day, showing off a luxury wrapped in mink, astrakans and foxes. Very different were the proposals of the young firm Duarte that extends its designs for men to the feminine wardrobe, betting on blazers with perfect patterns and flowing dresses. The day ended with the expected return of Pedro del Hierro to the catwalk, with a luxury ready-to-wear in which Mediterranean-style dresses, palazzo pants and jumpsuits made of elegant fabrics were not lacking.
On the second day of the MBFWM, Maria Escoté and Roberto Verino they opened the debate on the new and current rules of the game with "see now, buy now" collections. Maria Escoté did it by showing 60s silhouettes and a retrofuturist woman on the catwalk. Roberto Verino, for his part, took as a reference the colors of the island of Lanzarote and the work of the painter, sculptor and architect César Manrique to present a varied collection in terms of patterns.
Alvarno, Jorge Vazquez, Leandro Cano and Juan Vidal had the opportunity to show their new proposals during the second day. From Alvarno, the cotton capes, the sweaters with embroidered applications and the fringes that gave movement to dresses and skirts caught our attention. Jorge Vazquez opted for 80s silhouettes made of velvets, satins, gazars and plumeti tulles and triumphed. Leandro Canó did not skimp on volumes combining traditional and modern techniques such as 3D printing. And Juan Vidal? Juan Vidal brought beauty and harmony to the catwalk in shades of black, red and pink.
On Friday recognized designers paraded on the catwalk who did not want to miss the media impact that such a catwalk generates. And they did it by attracting attention in different ways. Duyos decided to replace the models with clients and friends who regularly wear her clothes. A commitment to plural and non-normative beauty that gave character to his games of textures and sophisticated paillettes gardens. Along with that of Duyos, the collections of Devota & Lomba and that of The 2nd SKIN Co. stood out for their elegance.
The fourth day of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid opened with the Ailanto show, could there be a better way to start? The firm is inspired for its new autumn-winter 2018 collection by the artist Fortuny, transferring the painter's work to his proposals through prints. To highlight their wraparound dresses, coats and gowns of printed velvet.
That same day Angel Schlesser and Ulises Merida were playing with him color on the catwalk, Who said winter has to be boring? And Teresa Helbig surprised with spectacular jewel designs with which she achieved refined but not corny looks. At the end of the fourth day, the end of the great date with Spanish fashion was beginning to feel close.
Today Sunday, there were still collections to be discovered. Those of Marcos Luengo, Miguel Marinero, Ion Fiz or Juana Martin, among others. While the former have opted for a wide color palette dominated by reds, oranges, purples and greens; Juana Martin played everything to one card betting on black and pink as a winning combination?
Before closing its doors and passing the baton to 080 Barcelona, the Ego catwalk will reveal tomorrow the proposals of emerging designers, we will be attentive! Have you followed the 67th edition of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid? What fashion shows have you liked or surprised you the most?
Pedro del Hierro's proposals undoubtedly stand out for their perfect balance between elegance and modernity, my favorites of all the options. The designs of the rest of the professionals attract my attention, but the truth is that few would dare to show off. An impressive work of imagination on the part of all. All the best!
