How to get a perm at home

If you have very straight and fine hair and you are totally bored of always wearing it the same way, it is very likely that you have thought about getting a perm. It is a fairly comfortable solution, which will provide a lot of movement and volume to your hair. 

The best thing to do when getting a perm is to put yourself in the hands of a professional, going to a hairdresser. Especially if you consider that your hair is very delicate or is very damaged due to dyes or other factors. In this way, the condition of your hair can be evaluated and if the perm is really a viable option.

Preparation

The first thing you should do is buy everything you need. The main thing, of course, is the perm solution, which you can buy in a store specializing in hairdressing products. You will also need perm rollers, large hairpins or hair clips, a fine-toothed comb.

Once you have it all wash your hair before you start, as you do normally, with shampoo and conditioner. And wipe off excess moisture with a towel. Then comb it to untangle it and start create partitions in your hair with the fine comb, holding each section with a clamp. Keep in mind that the more sections you make, the smaller your curls will be.

Procedure

If you have chosen to do a few splits, then you will need larger rollers, the smaller the sections, the smaller the rollers. It starts at the crown, continues on the sides and ends at the top and front.         Go undoing section by section and rolling the strands of hair on the rollers for permanent and securing them with bobby pins, until there are none left. Use a spray bottle with water to moisten your hair if you see it drying out.

When you have it done, use a little petroleum jelly to protect your scalp from possible irritations when in contact with the permanent solution. Only then, and using latex gloves, start applying the solution on all your curlers, uniformly.

The normal time of exposure to the permanent solution is usually between 15 and 20 minutes but it may depend on the manufacturer. So read the instructions carefully before starting and if it is not clear to you, check with the establishment where you purchased the product.

After the necessary time, rinse your hair, with the rollers still on with warm water, dry the excess water with a towel and apply the neutralizing solution that should come along with the permanent solution. Then carefully remove the rollers and rinse your hair again with warm water, without using any type of shampoo.

Finishing and care

Once you're done, let your hair dry naturally and don't comb it during the day. Also, it is better than do not wash your hair until at least 24 hours have passed from your application. The perm should last two or three months, if you do it, you risk that the curl has not formed correctly and it will last much less time.

When you brush your hair, use a wide-bristle brush to avoid undoing the curls and get shampoos and other products such as conditioners, masks and mousses suitable for your curly hair. This way you will achieve a more visible and lasting effect.
