Second stage
It goes from the 14th to the 28th. Towards the end of this phase is when many women experience changes in mood, fatigue or pain in the abdomen. It is what is known as the Premenstrual syndrome. In this phase, the predominant sex hormone is progesterone, which in women who have managed to become pregnant is responsible for preparing the uterus for the arrival of the fertilized egg. But in the event that there has been no luck, we will have this hormone until the arrival of the next menstruation, which will make us feel tired, with low spirits and also with more appetite, so we will have to exercise and eat healthy to avoid taking extra pounds.
Irregular cycles
However, not all cycles last 28 days; there are some that last very short, and others that last longer. It is considered normal as long as it lasts between 21 and 35; in case yours is shorter or longer, nothing happens. It is often thought that because it lasts more than 35 days, the woman is sterile, but it is not true. The only thing that could happen is that you have the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, also called Stein-Leventhal, which causes hormonal imbalances, making it difficult to achieve pregnancy since the ovaries have a harder time releasing fully developed eggs.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
The symptom more frequent are:
- Irregular menstrual periods (Once you can have a 20-day cycle, the next month have a 35-day cycle…).
- The menstruation never lasts the same days.
- More body hair than necessary, present above all on the face and abdomen.
- Acne, even after puberty.
To treat this syndrome you have to go to the gynecologist, who will perform a series of tests and examinations (blood tests, ultrasound, thyroid function tests, among others) to confirm whether or not you have this disease.
