Bonito fish with tomato

Tuna with tomato is a traditional dish and summer is the ideal time to prepare it, in the middle of the North Tuna season. And it doesn't take much to present a good dish with this fish as the protagonist. Only 4 ingredients.

Have you guessed what they are? The bonito, of course, onion, homemade tomato sauce and extra virgin olive oil. Nothing else is needed for this dish, which in the north we have a lot of appreciation for. Do you dare to try it? Not cooking regularly is no excuse for not doing it; it is a very simple dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 thick slice of bonito
  • Sal Island
  • Pepper
  • 1 red onion, julienned
  • 1 cup of homemade tomato sauce
  • Extra virgin olive oil

For the tomato sauce:

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 kg of ripe tomatoes, blanched and peeled
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pinch of sugar (if necessary)

Step by step

  1. If you do not have homemade tomato sauce ready, start there. Sauté the onion and green pepper in a saucepan with extra virgin olive oil over medium / low heat for 15 minutes. Then add the crushed tomato and garlic, season and cook over low heat for approximately 45 minutes.
  2. To prepare the tuna with tomato, start by seasoning it on both sides. Next, heat a drizzle of oil in a saucepan and mark it on both sides a few seconds. Remove and reserve on a plate.
  3. In the same pan and adding a little more oil, if necessary, poach the onion julienned 15 minutes over medium / low heat.
  4. Add the sauce tomato, stir and wait for it to boil.
  5. Then, incorporates the beautiful to the casserole and let it simmer between 5 and 8 minutes, depending on the thickness.
  6. Let stand a few minutes and serve the tuna with tomato.
