The Bridges of Madison

The Bridges of Madison County is one of the most emblematic stories of cinema of all times. Is it possible to bring to the stage a project that began as a phenomenal best-selling novel by Robert James Waller (1992) and was later followed up with a wonderful movie (1995) starred by Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. Set in 1965, in Iowa, the drama will premiere on November 9 at the EDP Gran Vía Theater.

Synopsis

Francesca had been a war bride in Naples. Her future husband was to be Paolo, but he never returned from the battlefield. Soon after, she meets Bud and marries him in hopes of a better life across the ocean. Later, with her marriage of two decades and two rebellious teenage sons, an unexpected encounter makes him question her very existence. During four days, in which her husband and children are absent to attend a fair, her life will turn upside down and change forever.

Los Puentes de Madison is not the story of an adultery, but the desperate song of a love that is sublimated in separation and, not being able to be, transcends and lasts forever. Lovers are the protagonists of an epiphany that only takes on its full meaning in the brutal courage of renunciation.

The Bridge is the metaphor of the impossible link. What unites, but also separates. The key to reading is the viewer's identification with the drama on stage, which will unleash an overwhelming empathy in the face of Francesca's desperate uneasiness and poetic illusion. Having been able to give herself body and soul to the unknown, she finds herself torn between his duty and his dreams.

Francesca loves both ways, but she can only choose one option.
