Fragas do Eume (A Coruña)
The natural park of Fragas del Eume is a protected natural space located in the province of A Coruña. Its fragas are considered one of the best examples of thermophilic Atlantic forest on the European continent and offer beautiful walks on foot. With four established access portals, without communication between them, the most visited is the one that sets the Caaveiro monastery as its destination, an ancient monastery with more than 10 centuries of history.
Oak, poplar, ash, alder... more than 20 species of ferns and 200 of lichens occur here. But beyond the beautiful vegetation that serves as the setting for both walks, the Fragas de Eume are also home to several charming towns such as Cabañas, Capela, Monfero, Puentedeume and Puentes de García Rodríguez.
Pasiegos Valleys (Cantabria)
Located in Cantabria, the Valles Pasiegos are a perfect mountain destination during the summer. In them you can find abrupt reliefs and exuberant landscapes, explore complex labyrinths through huge limestone blocks and also enjoy a varied cultural and ethnographic heritage.
In their towns you breathe a leisurely lifestyle. Puente Viesgo is perhaps the most popular and the place of reference to get to know the Pas Valley, but there are others as charming as this one: Villacarriedo, Castañeda or Liérganes. You will find both routes on foot and by bike that run the length and breadth of these valleys and a unique gastronomy in which pots, stews, quesadas and sobaos stand out.
Sierra de Urbasa (Navarre)
The Sierra de Urbasa is a magnificent natural park located in the region of Tierra Estella – Lizarraldea in Navarra. A paradise for nature lovers that welcomes one of the largest beech forests on the peninsula. In its more than 21400 hectares of extension, it is also possible to discover caves such as Los Cristinos, Akuandi or Noriturri, turquoise water rivers such as Urederra and cliffs such as the Balcón de Pilatos with walls over 200 meters high.
This natural park offers numerous hiking trails; simple to do as a family or more complicated, such as the ascent to Mount Beriarin, which with its 1492 meters is the roof of the natural park. As for accommodation, hotels and rural houses located in Abárzuza and Estella-Lizarra offer a good location to enjoy the park.
Ordesa Valley (Huesca)
In the Aragonese Pyrenees is one of the most spectacular landscapes for mountain lovers on the Peninsula: the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. An area of small valleys and ravines, plateaus and peaks, whose limits are the Monte Perdido-Mondarruego ridge to the north, the Sierra Custodia-Acuta crest to the south and the confluence with the head of the Valle del Ara or Bujaruelo valley to the west.
listed as World Heritage Site by Unesco offers a spectacle of biodiversity: beech forests, remains of glaciers, peaks over 3.000 meters high, 65 different species of birds... The options are extensive in terms of excursions; for the whole family, as they say. And the charming town of Torla offers an unbeatable environment and a starting point to access all of them.
