3 photographic exhibitions whose inauguration we hope

photographic exhibitions

Following the prestigious World Press Photo contest that we told you about yesterday and that this week chose a photograph by photojournalist Amber Bracken as photograph of the year, we thought of taking a look at the photographic exhibitions that will be inaugurated soon in our rooms.

If, like us, you like to enjoy different cultural activities, these exhibitions can be a good alternative to spend a pleasant time. They will be inaugurated during the months of May and June in Madrid and Barcelona. Who knows, if you are not from these cities like me but you are going to visit them during the summer, you could add them to your plan.

Bleda and Rosa

The landscape, the space full of memory, along with the idea of travel and interest in history, are the axes of the work of Bleda and Rosa. True research works that manage to show the impact of the human being on different spaces and the trace of the lives that have taken place in them. A walk through a memory and some memories that are not our own at a particular level, but as a group, and that allow us to think through their evocative capacity. Bleda and Rosa have what they show and say but also, and especially, with everything that is not said and exposed.

Bleda and Rosa

Bleda and Rosa are two creators working as one artist and they do it in a methodical, balanced, profound way. They met at the School of Applied Arts in Valencia while studying and defining photography as a suitable vehicle for their art. Photography as a document and the idea of the archive as a container for the heritage of history are statements that are found on numerous occasions linked to their work, while they respond by trying to specify and qualify those definitions that are given of their work, and that inevitably restrict their scope. Similarly, it is impossible that the names of Bernd and Hilla Becher do not appear on many occasions when their work is discussed. Although they claim other influences and references more intensely, such as the walker Hamish Fulton, Fischli and Weiss, Baldessari or Eugène Atget.

Paolo Gasparini. Field of images

Paolo Gasparini, Italian by birth, but Venezuelan in essence, is the photographer who has best portrayed the cultural tensions and contradictions of the South American continent. His images convey the harsh social reality faced by a region whose cultural authenticity is unquestionable and where past and local tradition dialogue with a clumsy imposed modernity. Gasparini creates a work with its own visual language that always seems to express a criticism of the consumer society. At the same time, he reveals a certain obsession with the way marketing and advertising seduce us.

Paolo Gasparini

The exhibition itinerary is divided into sixteen sections that collect the most relevant projects of the artist throughout more than six decades of work, and emphasizes his photobooks, which the artist recognizes as a means of expression comparable in importance to his photographs.

Carlos Perez Siquier

Another of the photographic exhibitions that we wish to highlight is the exhibition by Carlos Pérez Siquier (1930 – 2021). A sample that It is presented as a retrospective and that runs through its most notable series. It is also a heartfelt tribute to the recently deceased photographer, who from his native Almería stood out on the Spanish and international scene as a fundamental piece in the forging of photographic modernity and the professionalization of the medium in Spain.

Carlos Perez Siquier

From postulates close to neorealism and, later, as a pioneer of color photography, Pérez Siquier acted from a unique perspective, fully aware of his authorship despite having started from an intuitive conception of photography, far removed from any academic training. His career recognition materialized in 2003 when he was awarded the National Photography Award.
